I’m so excited to share our baby boy’s room today! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the video tour in my stories, but I wanted to share more of the specific details here and some of the meaning behind the items we chose for his room. I have taken my sweet time putting it all together, and I’m posting on it just in the nick of time, since his due date is tomorrow! I chose a travel theme, although it ended up having a bit of a rainbow theme as well, mostly due to my love of color and my inability to resist the current rainbow trend for babies going on right now. I wanted it to be practical, with some Montessori elements and natural wood, yet whimsical and playful and magical too. It was important to me to have handmade art and items on the walls, and I wanted a combination of city + wilderness, along with some of the places that are close to our hearts. These are photos from both my iPhone and my Nikon camera (taken on different days), just because I had gotten some different shots with each. I hope you enjoy the little tour!

This National Parks of the U.S.A. is such a beautiful book! It was a shower gift from a family friend, and I’m obsessed. The London map is an illustration that I actually cut out of an old desktop calendar… I buy (or receive as a Christmas gift) a Rifle Paper Co. travel-themed calendar every year to display in my home, but one year I also had a desktop version, which later made for perfect little pieces of art that I could cut out!
One of our church friends painted this cute little rainbow on some recycled brown paper that she used to wrap our baby shower gift, and when she gave it to us, I knew instantly that I wanted to use it in some way as art in the baby’s room. I ended up cutting it out, along with a back in the same paper, glued the edges of the two pieces together (leaving a space at the top), stuffed with cotton balls, sealed it up, and added wire to hang. I just love it, because it reminds me of our fun drive-through baby shower! (A photo of the original package is below!)

This little dog pillow was made by my great-grandma for my grandma when she was a child, and the cute travel box was the packaging of another gift at our baby shower.

Isn’t this little Texas cut-out book the cutest? I received as a gift from our neighbor of the house I grew up in.
I bought these three National Park prints from an Etsy shop and I just love the color they bring to the room! The one on the far left is Yellowstone (which Jamie has been to and I have not), the one in the middle is Rocky Mountain National Park (which we have both been to), and the one on the right is Big Sur National Park (which I have been to but Jamie has not). I love that they remind us of fun memories in beautiful places but also remind us of our dreams of places that we’d like to visit together as a family someday. There’s nothing that makes me happier than thinking about future trips that we will take!
World Map Mat: Gathre (I’ve had it for a few years now… I had gotten it on sale knowing that someday I would have a little one and a space to put it in!). The best part about these mats is that they are wipeable and water-resistant and can be used in a variety of ways.
The play gym was a Christmas gift from my parents, brother, and sister-in-law. It came from here. The little toy rings are the perfect colors and look for his room, and I also love that they are easily removable, because I have also purchased some different Montessori mobiles that I can add to the play gym at different developmental phases. It’s also nice that the play gym is easy to move around/transport to different rooms. I can put a swaddle or play mat under it, but right now I have a topponcino placed underneath it, another Montessori item that I look forward to using with our baby. It allows freedom of movement while helping baby feel safe and secure when being held, sleeping or laying, etc.
I found these little wooden block houses in the dollar section of Target.
I made this little pom-pom garland just to add a touch of whimsy. What can I say – I love pom-poms!

I knew exactly what I wanted for his mobile, but I couldn’t find it, so Jamie and I made it ourselves. It’s travel-themed and simple, made with string, a wooden hoop, and little felt ornaments found on Etsy.
The “sweet dreams” garland was gifted to us by my mother-in-law.
And this rainbow (which you probably saw in my last post) was custom-made by a friend of ours in Denver. She is so talented – you should definitely check out her Etsy shop, Cala & Ivy! I love the way it turned out and definitely inspired a lot of the other decor in his room.
This hanging frame with the clothespins was made by my parents for our wedding – it held the cards with our table assignments and numbers. We have three of them, and I thought it would be fun to put one in baby boy’s room that I can change out with different items. Right now, I have our shower invitations hanging up, along with more map prints from my desktop calendar, a greeting card from our baby shower, a photo of Jamie and me, and our baby boy’s last ultrasound photo.
I knew I wanted a child-sized clothing rack for our child so that when he gets older, I can give him some outfit options and let him choose and get dressed by himself, so I went ahead and got this one from Guidecraft. In the meantime, I can display various articles of adorable clothing, because we all know that I have a thing for kids’ fashion. Why is everything cuter when it’s tiny?!
I got all the prints from Etsy – they are each special to us. The first one with the buildings on Larimer St. in RiNo, the neighborhood where we used to live in Denver, is so cool since we used to walk by all those unique buildings all the time. We have so many fun memories there! The second one is Dallas, where I was living when Jamie and I met and where we lived when we moved back to Texas. The third one is of the Black Hills in South Dakota, where Jamie’s family’s cabin is. We’ve spent so many holidays there with his family, and it’s so beautiful. The view from the cabin looks very similar to the picture in summertime, with Custer Peak in the background. I found the embroidery hoop with the hot air balloon on Poshmark.
The stuffed owl is from Hazel Village and is named Jeremy Owl, and our little guy has a matching romper that goes with the one he is wearing. I actually found him and the outfit on Poshmark. I got the Muji NYC blocks on Mercari.
The Adventure Fund jar was a fun little gift from my parents a few years back, the little sign came from our diaper cake at our shower that was made by our family friend, and I can’t remember where I got this little wooden camera, but I’ve had it for a long time.

I found the little cowboy tee at my favorite store in Marfa, Ranch Candy. The green romper is the one I mentioned above that matches Jeremy Owl’s, and the vintage suede fringed jacket is the first article of kids’ clothing that I ever purchased many years ago at Dolly Python in Dallas. It is literally THE piece that got me into kids’ fashion and led to many more purchases! You can’t tell by the photo, but it is so tiny, and it stole my heart right away!

We also have a name puzzle that I will likely display in his room, but I can’t share it just yet!! I’m sure his room will evolve over time, but I adore it right now and it brings me so much joy to be in there. I can’t wait to fill it with memories with our little boy.

My coworkers planned out so many fun details and games – the morning of the shower, one of them brought over flowers, a teddy bear, a balloon, candy, and an edible arrangement, so that we could eat treats and have some cute decorations to display in the background of our shower. It was great to see everyone at work (since we had been quarantining for the last several weeks) – we played a word unscrambling game and another game where we had to try to guess what phrases a series of emojis represent, both of which were perfect to play virtually. Another coworker had put together a sweet video of well wishes from coworkers, which we watched on the call, and then we opened our gifts. There were so many from our group – I couldn’t believe it! I really have the best coworkers. It was such a wonderful event, and Jamie and I had a great time.

Our church group is fairly small, and since it was only them and my parents and grandma, everyone did get out of their cars and we socialized a bit outside with masks, but the nice thing is that people could do that as they felt comfortable and stay as long or short of a time as they desired. We had a lovely time and appreciated getting to see everyone while still feeling safe. We are so fortunate to have found such amazing group of people to do life with!
